What Factors Affect the Performance of Valve Body



The valve body, as the core component of the valve, has a direct impact on the performance and service life of the valve through its design, material, and manufacturing process. The performance of valve body is influenced by various factors, which can be summarized as follows.

 

1、 Material Factors of Valve Body  

 

Corrosion resistance: The material of the valve body directly affects its corrosion resistance. Different materials have different corrosion resistance to different media. For example, stainless steel valves exhibit good corrosion resistance in media such as nitric acid, alkali, water, salt, and organic acids, but have poor corrosion resistance to non oxidizing acids such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid. Cast iron valves are suitable for media with low corrosiveness, such as water, steam, petroleum products, etc., but perform poorly in highly corrosive media.

 

Strength and hardness :The strength and hardness of the material determine the ability of the valve body to withstand pressure and impact. High strength materials such as cast steel and forged steel are suitable for high-pressure systems and can withstand significant pressure. Lightweight materials such as aluminum alloy may be more suitable for low-pressure applications.

 

High temperature resistance :In high temperature environments, the material of the valve needs to have good high-temperature resistance to ensure that the valve can still work normally under high temperature conditions. Some special alloys or ceramic materials can be used to manufacture high-temperature valves.

 

2、 Structure and Design Factors of Valve Body 

 

Valve body shape :The shape of the valve body directly affects the flow characteristics of the fluid and the flow capacity of the valve. Common valve body  shapes include straight through, angled, three-way, etc., to accommodate different pipeline connection methods and fluid control requirements.

 

Wall thickness :The wall thickness of the valve body has a significant impact on its strength and pressure bearing capacity. Thin wall thickness may cause deformation or rupture of the valve body under high pressure, while thick wall thickness may increase the weight and cost of the valve. Therefore, the design of valve body wall thickness needs to be reasonably selected based on actual working conditions.

 

Sealing structure :The sealing structure is a key part of the valve, which directly affects the sealing performance of the valve. The material, shape, size, and processing accuracy of the seal can all affect the sealing effect of the valve. High quality sealing structures and materials can significantly reduce the risk of leakage.

 

3、 Manufacturing Process Factors of Valve Body   

 

Casting defects :Defects such as pores, sand holes, shrinkage cavities, slag inclusions, and cracks that may occur during the casting of valve body can seriously affect the mechanical properties and service life of the valve body. Therefore, strict control of process parameters and inspection standards is required during the casting process to ensure the quality of the valve body.

 

Forging quality :The forging processing method can ensure the strength and sealing of the valve body, but the forging processing cost is relatively high. During the forging process, it is necessary to ensure the uniformity and density of the material in order to improve the overall performance of the valve body.

 

Welding quality :The welding processing method is suitable for the manufacturing of small and medium-sized valves. The welding quality has a significant impact on the sealing and mechanical properties of valves. Welding defects such as weld cracking, porosity, and hydrogen induced delayed cracking can significantly reduce the performance and service life of valves. Therefore, it is necessary to select appropriate welding materials and processing methods during the welding process, and strictly control the welding quality.
